Albany Medical College, one of the oldest medical colleges in the country, as part of a reorganization to provide theme-based medical research, commissioned Hyman Hayes Associates to program and design a 5,300-sf laboratory for the Center for Cell Biology and Cancer Research. Graduate and post-graduate researchers with highly specific research needs use the Center.

The new laboratory was created by demolishing several smaller, outdated labs. Equipment needs included: tissue culture and fume hoods; incubators; refrigerators, freezers, and ultra-low temperature freezers, and ultra-pure water units. Extensive use of radioactive substances required a separate lab with restricted access.
