In response to an increased demand for outpatient care services, Albany Medical Center invested $15 million in a new Physicians Pavilion. Albany Med chose Hyman Hayes Associates to plan and design the new 45,000-sf building. In addition to providing easier access to various outpatient services, all physician offices are in one location.
Extensive user meetings were held to obtain space requirements from departments moving into the addition. Because of a limited site, the addition pushed into a drive lane and forced the reconfiguration of an adjacent parking lot. To provide better customer service valet parking and a new patient drop-off/pick-off lane was added at the main entry.

Specialty services that cater to the elderly and disabled were located in the front of the building to minimize travel distances to care. In addition to moving many outpatient services, formerly scattered throughout the hospital, into one location, space for an additional 22 in-patient beds was created.
