Hyman Hayes Associates was commissioned to program and design the $7-million, 60,000-sf fourth phase of Albany Molecular Research's laboratory/office headquarters expansion. This completed the fit-out of the 90,000-sf facility.
The project included a complete gut renovation of the existing office space and construction of a second level. The lower level, primarily laboratory and support spaces, includes a 3,950-sf GMP suite for highly specialized processing operations, NMR, two development laboratories, and six medical chemistry laboratories. The upper level contains a 2,450-sf analytical laboratory, additional lab support spaces, laboratory and chemical storage, locker rooms, administrative and executive offices, and an expanded cafeteria.

A 2,500-sf, two-story mechanical room with two exterior cooling towers was added to support complex laboratory functions and the 63 new fume hoods. The expansion also required minor modifications to the parking layout and landscaping.
