Hyman Hayes Associates is currently designing a two-story addition at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, which includes a replacement Emergency Department (ED) on the first floor. The current 6,500-sf ED is inadequate for present and projected patient volumes. The new ED will almost triple the size of emergency facilities at the Seton Health System facility when it is completed in 2009.
The enlarged ED will contain 18 treatment rooms with 22 beds. Specialized treatment spaces include two 2-bed cardiac rooms, a two-bed trauma room, a SANE/GYN room, a two-bed orthopedic room, isolation room, a minor surgery room, and secured holding room.

Ten single-bed non-specialized treatment rooms will all have cardiac monitoring equipment.
The ED will be linked to the hospital by a two-story pedestrian connector corridor. The first floor will be primarily for public access between the main hospital lobby and the new building, while the second floor will be largely used for patient transport between buildings.
The $21-million project also includes space for ambulatory services and medical offices on the second floor, a mechanical/electrical area, and support spaces.
