To provide much needed patient beds, Albany Medical Center commissioned Hyman Hayes Associates to plan and design the $1-million renovation of clinical space into a medical/surgical nursing unit. A portion of the floor housed the Apheresis unit that could not be moved so the new unit was designed around it.

The final design provides five double rooms and two private rooms for a total of 12 beds along the exterior and a small waiting area at the front of the suite. A rear corridor provides back access into the nurses' station, as well as a staff break room, nurse manager's office and exam room.
