The focal point of the $350,000- Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department renovation, which includes the usual clinical, support, and office spaces, is the Infusion/Play Area. The 6,100-sf space allows patients and their siblings to be with their peers and take part in a variety of supervised activities while obtaining chemotherapy treatment.

The Infusion/Play Area provides an upbeat and playful environment for children to receive their care. By using partitions with large amounts of glass, half-height walls and a variety of colorful finishes, the overall Infusion/ Play Area has been segregated into three separate age group areas.

This allows each group their own space but maintains visual control for the staff. In addition, a separate attached Adult Waiting Area provides children with the opportunity for independence and offers parents a chance to talk with other adults who are experiencing common issues, yet still maintain contact with their children.

At one end of the infusion suite is a doctor/nurse work room where one-way glass allows the staff to monitor patients without influencing their activities. Two exam rooms contain larger beds and wall mounted TVs for greater flexibility.
