Bristol-Myers Squibb commissioned Hyman Hayes Associates to design a $1.5-million, 3,600-sf addition to their existing anti-cancer research pilot plant facility. The expansion was limited by an adjacent building and roadways, requiring a highly efficient layout to maximize use of limited space.
The design incorporated pharmaceutical cGMP/cleanroom requirements, including airlocks, gowning/degowning, 'clean and dirty' areas, sterile fill rooms, and special finishes such as PVC walls and troweled epoxy flooring. An interstitial mechanical level was suspended from the structure above to distribute utilities, provide access to process piping, and to allow for changes to meet new program requirements.

The project won a Build New York Award for teamwork among Owner, Architect, and Contractor.
