Hyman Hayes Associates was commissioned by OuterZ Inc. to help plan a family entertainment center. The program called for two separate structures with indoor go-kart racing in one and laser tag, rock climbing wall, indoor miniature golf and party rooms in the other.

After reviewing the program and possible layouts we suggested the buildings be combined. A central entry and control point brings all customers into the same location from which they can go in a number of directions depending on the desired activity. The combined layout consolidates common services and provides convenience for the customers of having all activities in one location.

The proposed design responds to the Town of Malta's comprehensive master plan which includes a continuation of the "Downtown Overlay District". Landscaping and sidewalks along the road soften the entry to the site and encourage pedestrian traffic. The building design incorporates a brick base with stucco above to break up the façade. These common materials together with the extensive use of canopies and various size fenestration helps to provide a more pedestrian scale to the 24-ft-high building. In addition, large expanses of curtainwall windows connects the interior activities to the exterior and helps to promote the activities to those passing by, both in vehicles and on foot.

The overall layout as proposed is approximately 63,000 sf with an estimated construction cost of approximately $10 million.
