Due to increasing demand for outpatient surgical services and and a lack of space on the Hospital's main campus, Saratoga Hospital decided to construct a new Ambulatory Surgery Center. Hyman Hayes Associates was selected over several national firms for "the largest project in the hospital's history." We assisted the hospital with site placement, provided intensive assistance in securing site plan approval, and prepared CON documentation and construction documents, all within 10 months.

The Ambulatory Surgery Center occupies the first floor of the $5.3-million 49,500-sf two-story building. The facility contains four operation rooms, three GI rooms, and two pain management rooms. For optimum flexibility, rooms were designed to accommodate multiple functions without any interruption to facility operations.

The Surgery Center ties into the adjacent Saratoga Hospital Ambulatory Care building through the use of similar materials and design motifs. Entry into the Surgery Center is through a two-story atrium with an indoor garden. The waiting room is a relaxed space with seating arranged for different uses, including TV viewing and an Internet cafe. Design of clinical areas centers around patient privacy and comfort. A circular patient flow from entry through exit ensures patients at different stages never cross.

The project was featured in the July 2004 issue of "Today's Surgicenter" magazine.
