As part of a program to provide specialized diagnostic and treatment services to its clients, Albany Medical Center developed a Breast Center component to their Radiology Department. The Center is outfitted with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including an 'R-2 Checker' computer-aided detection device and second generation digital mammography units, making the Breast Center only the second hospital in the country to have such a system.
The Breast Center is accessed through the existing Radiology Department and shares its check-in/registration function. After registering, women enter into a separate suite with private waiting area. The 2,630-sf Breast Center includes areas for Mammography, Ultrasound, and Advanced Breast Biopsy Instrument procedures, as well as a waiting room, consultation room, change rooms, dark room, reading room, and support facilities.

In addition to the Breast Center renovation, approximately 1,235 sf of the existing Radiology Department was renovated to enlarge the waiting area and provide a larger, more private registration desk with greater patient confidentiality.
